Large Christmas Ball for an outdoor tree (tutorial)

Owners of private houses can decorate both their home Christmas tree and the Christmas tree in their yard for the New Year holidays. Having complemented the decor of the site with LED garlands, a deer, and a snowman, we find ourselves in a winter fairy tale. If you decide to create something similar on your site, we offer an original idea for creating a toy for a street Christmas tree. We will take almost everything we need for work from the same place – from the yard, garden, the nearest forest.

Necessary materials for an outdoor New Year’s ball:

– polyurethane foam (construction);
– paper napkins;
– bamboo sheet (decorative cardboard);
– acrylic paint (various colors);
– acrylic lacquer;
– natural materials (branches, dry leaves, berries, flowers, acorns, small pebbles);
– jute rope;
– burlap;
– brushes;
– a piece of sponge;
– PVA glue;
– glue gun;
– construction knife;
– scissors.

How to make a Christmas tree decoration for a Christmas tree in the yard or for a city Christmas tree

  1. From polyurethane foam we prepare the base for the toy – a large ball. It’s easier to buy a ready-made foam blank, but it’s cheaper to make it yourself. To get the right shape, you can use a balloon. We fill it with foam, and after it dries, remove the balloon. It will take 24 to 72 hours for the workpiece to dry.

In this tutorial, we used another option, which requires less time for the foam to harden. Fill the cardboard box with polyurethane foam. When the mass dries, cut the cardboard with a knife, giving the ball the desired shape. In the open air, the drying process is halved.

2. Apply PVA glue thickly to the base. Place paper napkins on top, gathering them into decorative folds. Leave to dry. It will take about 8 hours.

3. Paint the ball using a brush and acrylic paint. It is better to choose a shade of blue or light green. It will serve as a background for the future panorama, so neutral shades are preferable. Let’s dry it.

4. We prepare natural materials and begin sculpting the surface. Creating a rural landscape. The central composition is a mud hut. We use branches for the contours and leaves for the roof. We form the entrance door from a bamboo sheet. Glue a piece of cardboard of the appropriate shape under it – this will make the part look more voluminous. We attach all materials using a glue gun.

5. We build a path from the house. It’s funny how jute threads imitate it.

6. We plant trees on one side of the house and build a fence. Branches, acorns – and the tree is ready. A bamboo sheet makes a nice fence.

7. On the other side we plant a flower bush. We use dry branches and small flowers.

8. Add a flower bed. We fence it with small pebbles. Flowers can be cut out of cardboard and painted.

9. Another detail is a small lake. We make the edging from jute rope. Paint it blue.

10. On the opposite side of the house, we will place a field with haystacks. They can be made from jute rope collected in small bundles. We tie the top and the stack is ready.

11. Using a small piece of sponge, apply acrylic paint to the entire surface of the ball. We change colors depending on the composition: the sky and lake are blue, the garden is green, and the earth is black.

12. We paint the mud hut with a brush in the traditional white color. Add details – windows for example.

13. We cover the toy with transparent acrylic varnish. It’s better to use a spray. Now the decoration is not afraid of either snow or rain.

14. We complete the work by attaching the loop and bow. The loop for hanging on the Christmas tree is made of jute. We make a hole in the top of the ball using any sharp object: skewers, or knitting needles. Apply a few drops of hot glue inside the hole, “screwing” the jute in at the same time.

15. The bow on the New Year’s ball will also not be traditional. Not satin, not silk – we use burlap to form the bow. Fix it with a glue gun.

Such an unusual authentic Christmas ball will make every guest stop at your Christmas tree. This kind of decor is also a worthy idea for a Christmas tree ornament for a city Christmas tree.

The Christmas ball for the street tree is ready!
